Bob Dylan — the iconic Grammy-, Oscar- and Nobel Prize-winning singer-songwriter — is returning to perform in Utah for the first time in five years.

Dylan will bring his “Rough and Rowdy Ways” tour to the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main St., Salt Lake City, on Thursday, June 30, at 8 p.m.

Tickets go on sale Friday, 10 a.m., at ArtTix.org.

The show will be a “phone-free experience,” meaning concertgoers will be required to put their phones and smart watches into a secure pouch that the owner carries with them during the show — but which only can be opened by venue personnel outside the auditorium.

Dylan released “Rough and Rowdy Ways” in June 2020, his 39th studio album and his first to include original music since “Tempest” in 2012. The New York Times hailed it as “his grandest poetic statement yet.”

From his debut singing folk songs in the early ‘60s, and through his groundbreaking move to electric instruments in 1965, Dylan has written the songs that served as the soundtrack of the second half of the 20th century.

His repertoire includes such iconic songs as “The Times They Are a-Changin’,” “A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” “All Along the Watchtower,” “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” “Forever Young,” “Hurricane,” “Tangled Up in Blue,” “Gotta Serve Somebody,” and many more.

Besides winning 10 Grammys (most of them for his own work, with one as part of the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys) and an Academy Award (in 2001, for the song “Things Have Changed” from “Wonder Boys”), Dylan received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016. He was given the Kennedy Center Honors in 1997, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, was given a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008, and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.
